RE: The tariff classification of Droxydopa (CAS 23651-95-8) in bulk powder form, from Italy
Dear Ms. Forstenzer:
In your letter dated May 14, 2015, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The subject product, Droxydopa (“Droxidopa” is INN), is a synthetic amino acid precursor of norepinephrine. It is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (NOH) in patients with primary autonomic failure, Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, and pure autonomic failure.
The applicable subheading for Droxydopa, imported in bulk form, will be 2922.50.2500, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Oxygen-function amino-compounds: Amino-alcohol-phenols, amino-acid-phenols and other amino-compounds with oxygen function: Aromatic: Other: Drugs: Other.” Pursuant to GN 13, HTSUS, the rate of duty will be free.
